The evaluation of the relationship of clinical and laboratory evidence with renal damage in the pediatric patients that had urinary tract infections

Purpose: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the important infectious diseases childhood age. It causes serious late-term complications by leading to development renal scarring in some pediatric patients. In present study, it was aimed determine risk factors damage patients that admitted with clinical acute pyelonephritis. Materials and methods: our medical files were nephrology polyclinic Pamukkale University Medical Faculty followed-up diagnosis urinary retrospectively evaluated. The study included 197 diagnosed pyelonephritis (confirmed urine culture evidence) undergoing dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scintigraphic imaging. evidence (fever, recurrent UTI, voiding dysfunction etc.), laboratory (C-reactive protein (CRP) erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), white blood cell (WBC) count, polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PNL) mean platelet volume (MPV), serum urea creatinine levels) imaging (urinary system ultrasonography (USG), cystourethrography (VCUG) DMSA scintigraphy) detected at admission obtained anamnesis Results: number female (n=153) found significantly higher than male (n=44) (p<0.001). pretreatment fever 38ºC over, persisting for 2 days or longer, presence UTI high levels WBC, PNL, ESR CRP increased determined USG VCUG have low sensitivity regarding prediction damage. Conclusion: Determination data patient may contribute a reduction morbidity mortality rates applying an appropriate follow-up treatment modality.
